Publication alert: The Revised Product Liability Directive: Internal and External Challenges in the Context of Lithuanian Law
We have a new publication in the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence JUST-AI Research Paper. In his contribution, Artūras Grumulaitis (Ph.D Student, Vilnius University) argues that despite the advantage, provided by AI for the society, the complexity, opacity and autonomy of AI-based products and services can cause damage not only to the property, human life or health, but also violate fundamental rights or intellectual property rights. In 2022 the European Commission proposed an extended draft of the Product Liability Directive (PLD) to address the legal challenges posed by AI, which was adopted on 12 March 2024 by European Parliament. Focusing on Lithuanian (EU) legislation and judicial practice, this paper explores both internal and external challenges related to the Revised PLD (R-PLD) and the development of modern product liability law in the EU.
