WE'RE HIRING - ONE FULLY FUNDED (4 yr) PhD position in law, funded within the KNOW.THY.AI (PDR FNRS) project, spearheaded by Ljupcho GROZDANOVSKI and Julien CABAY. With the ambition of uncovering and mapping out the types of evidence needed to argue harm and causation in cases involving AI systems (and characterised by opacity), the successful candidate will be included in the pursuit and completion of a three-staged research:
  1. A public consultation in 5 EU Member States, the EU institutions and the ECHR;
  2. The (re)conceptualising of procedural fairness in light of AI;
  3. the translation of the projects' findings into an AI system (‘procedural fairness toolkit’).

Candidates in law should be holders of an MA in EU law or in law & tech.

An excellent academic record is required. All applicants should be fluent in English (C1, speaking and writing) and have a working knowledge of French (fluency is preferable, but not imperative). A working knowledge of German, Italian or Dutch is a plus.

The successful candidate will have their primary affiliation with the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence Just AI (Université de Liège), and secondary affiliation with the JurisLab (ULB).
